Maguindanao Massacre Editorial

Maguindanao Massacre: All Because of Greed?

by Celine Mesina

It is not unusual to the Filipinos that killings happen before and after elections. Such events prove the sad reality of Philippine elections.

I believe the Maguindanao massacre did happen because of greed. Clans in Mindanao have been ruling the same provinces the previous years and it would be hard to replace a member of so every election period because power, in my thoughts, has always been a need for them. With another candidate taking the risk in competing with the present rulers, clan feuds are more likely to happen and someone’s political aspiration cannot be delayed that is why killings occur to guarantee it. These events show how greed can take over ones life. It can make a person overlook everything except money and power. The desire for money and power takes over man’s values that he can no longer see what is right and what is wrong. Assassinations are never an exception to what greed can carry out.

It is said that wanton killings usually happen in that part of the country but I believe that these should no longer be endured just because they have always been this way in that province. With the recent events that happened, the authorities must take action before more and worse violent proceedings occur. Some time in the future, justice would be given to those who have been killed ruthlessly but my concern now is that the youth might see greed and violence as examples that could support their future ambitions. With the fact that clan disputes and murders for money and power are a part of the political culture, they might see these as standard ideas. Greed can happen from the smallest acts that children do and so can develop into more grave actions. If the Filipino people, starting from the leaders of the country, do not work to seek justice among such situations, greed would still prevail during elections and much more violence might occur.

Grade VI Family Day !

Family Day, an event that we are waiting for, the day when mother, father and the children shared it's fun and exciting experience.

December 5 , 2009 at 6:30 AM, everyone was busy registered their names, and a community celebration was held with Fr. Tony Gerente presiding the mass. His Homily talks about the relationship of the family members.

After the mass, everyone proceeded to the Gym and the program started with an opening prayer and followed by a welcome remarks of Mrs. Lerma Fernandez, our grade school principal. Everyone listened to the Inspirational Message from Rev. Msgr. Arnel F. Lagarejos, our College President. His message was about a family to become more closer together. "Ito ay naganap upang mas magkaroon ng pagkakaisa at mas magkakila-kilala ang mga magulang ng mga grade 6", that was what Msgr. Arnel said. After that, Mrs. Rivera introduced the couple Mr. and Mrs. Roger Cerezo who gave pointers about a Positive Empowered Parenting on Ages 11-13. According to them a family must have a "family time bonding" and the children need LOVE, and according to them "kapag nagkulang ang mga magulang sa kanilang mga anak, sa barkada nila hahanapin ito". Then everyone ate their meal. Mrs. Sergia Rivera led the Family Bible Quiz Bee to know the spiritual knowledge not only the children but also the parents. St. Luke won the first prize. After that, Mr. Joel Javiniar, our Vice President of Academic Affairs, gave his short and remarkable message. Then, volunteered Grade VI pupils showed their talents in dancing in the tune of "Boom Boom Pow". Screams were heard when all of the advisers joined the so called "balloon relay" and Ms. Sison of St.Peter won the game. Mrs. Lydia Gurango closed the program by giving thanks to all the parents, teachers, students and everyone who made the event possible followed by a very touchable closing prayer of Mrs. Teresita Fusilero.

Everyone was happy, I know, because I'm one of them !

Nagbigay siya ng guidelines on how to
win in parenting.

"Magsaya tayo at bawal ang nakasimangot" he ended.
The offering was done by the pupils together with the parents. The Eucharist was peaceful, everyone was quiet. After the giving of peace, the gr. 3 pupils performed a dance while singing. It was not very long but it was meaningful. The rest of the mass was splendid. It ended succeesfuly.
